Excellent New York Times article examining the hows and whys of being an asshole on the Internet.

I’ve been waiting for an article like this. Something comprehensive. I’m too sensitive a soul to ever fully understand the desire to torment people you’ve never met, simply because “pushing people’s buttons” makes you laugh. It is, as the author put it, like sneaking up behind someone and hitting them with a baseball bat, then blaming the victim for not wearing a helmet. That complete and utter lack of empathy is fascinating.
