The new FLASH GORDON series
is one of the worst things I’ve ever seen on television. Honestly. I hate blanket dismissals, so I tried really hard to find something likable about it — just one positive thing, you know? Was it well-structured? How was the lighting? Anything.
There’s literally nothing good about it. I was embarrassed for everyone involved.
Peh.

Ooooh, that’s too bad. I’ll have to warn my boyfriend who was rather excited about it.

Nothing says “no budget” like “Ming invades Earth instead.”

And speaking of Ming, while I recognize that the “classic” portrayal was racially stereotypical and would be unacceptable by modern standards, don’t you think re-imagining him as a five-foot-seven-inch white dude with blond hair might be over-correcting the wheel a little bit? Are they seriously trying to avoid racist portrayals by employing an all-white cast? Who here thinks that’s a smart idea? Show of hands.
I mean, for real. The character’s named Ming the Merciless, for crissakes. If I was an Asian actor looking for work in Vancouver I’d be mightily pissed off right now.
